The alternative medicine of Reiki has gained support from doctors and hospitals worldwide. It is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation which also promotes healing and a feeling of well-being. The Winds of Change Reiki Studio offers traditional Usui Method of Natural Healing.

Reiki treatments are directed to your areas of concern to ease discomfort and supporting wellness optimization. Reiki helps you unwind, feel cared for and at peace. Reiki is administered by “laying on of hands”. Reiki’s purpose is to assist the body to balance areas of imbalance.  Stress is a prominent factor in the reduction of the immune system’s effectiveness. Reiki helps to balance the energy centers of the body, thus helping the body achieve its natural state of good health and vitality.

Treatments are done in a room with soothing music playing. Many describe the experience as very relaxing with an overall feeling of peace, well-being, and a reduction in stress and tension. The effects of Reiki vary from person to person, and from session to session.

Some of the benefits of Reiki include the following:

Reiki is effective in treating many ailments such as back pain and arthritis as well as serious illnesses like cancer and lupus. It is currently used in many hospitals throughout the United States including Sloan Kettering, Manhattan Eye and Ear, Marin General and Tucson Medical Center. Reiki has been used successfully in pre and post operative treatments at Columbia Presbyterian, notably with the famous heart surgeon, Melmet Oz.  Reports from these hospitals indicate that patients who receive Reiki treatments have less pain, and have shorter hospital stays than those patients who do not have treatments.  Nearly 10 years ago, Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire began offering Reiki as a way to ease anxiety in patients awaiting surgery. Feedback from patients was so positive that Reiki was made available throughout the hospital. Ongoing program evaluations have shown patients who received Reiki treatment needed less pain medication and left the hospital sooner. Today, this hospital has a full-time Reiki practitioner and a volunteer corps that provide 2,000 Reiki treatments a year.
